Dravid's father worked for Kissan, a company known for jams and preserves and thus he earned the nickname Jammy from his teammates at St. Joseph's, Bangalore. Rahul Dravid has a degree in commerce from St Joseph's College of Commerce, Bengaluru (previously known as Bangalore), Karnataka.
Although Dravid is purely Marathi in terms of origin and mother tongue, he considers Karnataka to be his home state as he was brought up there. On May 4, 2003, Rahul married Dr. Vijeta Pendharkar, a surgeon from Nagpur and on October 11, 2005, their son, Samit, was born
